Situated north of Batumi’s central region, Mtsvane Kontskhi is known for its natural beauty and is a must-visit area for anyone visiting Georgia. The Botanical Garden features various hiking trails and lookout points that allow visitors to get amazing views of the Black Sea. After visiting the gardens, head to the beach and enjoy a drink and a bite at Restaurant’s Green Cape.

This beach, which is located near the Batumi Botanical Garden, isn’t the best in the area, but it’s one of the best places to swim. It also has a beautiful jetty. Another beach, known as Makhinjauri Beach, is a little further down the coast and is a good option for swimming.

Before heading back to Batumi, take a stop at the Fish Market, which is a 10-minute drive away from the beach. There, you can browse the various types of fish that are available for purchase. After having a taste of the fish, head to Fishlandia, a restaurant that’s next door to the Fish Market.

The beach at Makhinjauri Beach has a variety of seating areas that allow people to enjoy their meal and relax. If the timing is right, you’ll be able to catch a beautiful sunset.

Batumi’s public transportation system, known as marshrutka vans, run from downtown to Mtsvane Kontskhi and back. On the way to the Botanical Garden, buses 10 and 10a pass through Gogebashvili Street. Tickets for these two buses cost around 1 GEL each.

A car and driver can be hired for a round-trip transfer to and from Mtsvena Kontskhi for around 25 USD. This is a hassle-free way to get around the area.

2. MTIRALA NATIONAL PARK

The distance from Batumi to Mtsvena Kontskhi is around 30 kilometers. On the other hand, this area is known for its beautiful nature and is a great day trip away from the city. The road that winds through the Mtirala National Park takes you through a leafy green area.

Mtirala National Park is considered to be the best-known area near Batumi. It can be reached by car around an hour from the city. This region is ideal for a short summer or spring trip.

The Mtirala National Park is known for its dense forests, which are filled with various types of flora and fauna. This area also has plenty of rainfall. The region is frequently visited by brown bears.

After you’ve visited the park’s main area, you can choose from two hiking trails that are both easy and long.

One of these is the 7-kilometer loop that leads to the river gorge. The longer trail, which is called the Tsivtskaro, takes two days to complete.

There are only limited food options in the park, but you can still enjoy a picnic at one of the park’s picnic areas. If you’re not planning on walking, you can explore the various parts of the park by car.

How to get to Mtirala National Park from Batumi

Unfortunately, there is no reliable public transportation connection between Mtirala and Batumi. There are shuttle buses that run to the nearby Khala village four times a day. If you’re planning on walking, you’ll need to walk around 7 kilometers to reach the visitor’s center.

If you’re planning on traveling to the park by car, you can take a taxi to the nearby town of Kobuleti or a van to the Chakvistavi Village. On certain days, a direct van will leave from Batumi at around 7:30am and return at 5.50pm.

One of my favorites is Kvariati Beach, which is situated on the Georgian side of the Sea Coast. This beach is known for its beautiful setting and quiet demeanor. After Kvariati, cliffs rise up from the sea and mark the end of the shoreline.

One of the most popular areas in Kvariati Beach is behind the beach, where there are several waterfalls. If you’re planning on visiting the area with a group, you should definitely stop by Cafe Rakushkebi Fridastan. This is a great seafood restaurant that’s located right next to the beach.

One of the most popular attractions in the area is the Makhuntseti waterfall, which is located near a leafy green area.

One of the most popular attractions in the area is the Makhuntseti waterfall, which is located near a leafy green area. This natural feature is a great way to escape the city and enjoy a cool day out. Unfortunately, this trip is very popular and usually full during the summer season.

The waterfall is set back from the main road and can be accessed via a short hiking trail. Another great natural feature in the area is the Makhuntseti Bridge, which is a beautiful structure that looks like a Tamara bridge. There are also multiple cafes and restaurants in this area.

Mirveti is a bit secluded and is closer to Batumi. Although the falls are shorter, they are still beautiful. Another beautiful natural feature in this area is the Mirveti Arch Bridge.

7. ADJARIAN WINE ROUTE

The Adjarian Wine Route is a great way to visit the area and experience local wines. It takes around 40 to 75 minutes to travel from Batumi. One of the best places to visit in this area is the Adjara Wine House. This establishment has an outdoor seating area and is located near mountains.

Although Kakheti is the main wine region in Georgia, grapes can also be grown in various areas throughout the country. The Adjara Wine Route is regarded as an emerging destination for wine tourism in the country.

Most of the establishments along the Adjara Wine Route are located in the high-altitude Adjara region. If you’re planning on visiting the area during a short time, there are a few places that are close to Batumi that are worth visiting. These include the Adjarian Wine House and Mirveti’s.

The Adjarian Wine House is a popular establishment that has a large property and is set on a sprawling area. Although it is known for its excellent wine-tasting experience, I’ve noticed that the quality of service has declined in recent years.

For an intimate experience, visit Mirveti’s Family-owned winery, which is located near the waterfall. This establishment offers both wine tasting and home-cooked meals. If you’re planning on visiting the area during a short time, this is a must-visit. Located in a beautiful wooden house, Chateau Iveri is a short drive away from Batumi.

The Adjara region is known for its various wine varieties, such as Chkhaveri and Tsolikauri. Although different grapes are used in this area, the same technology is used in the production of these wines.

If you’re serious about wine, head further into the Upper Adjara region to explore the various areas that are known for their wine production. Some of the highlights of this area include Lado Shavishvili’s Wine Cellar and Brother’s Avaliani.

8. MACHAKHELA NATIONAL PARK

One of my favorite best day trips from Batumi. The distance from Batumi to Machakhela National Park is approximately 27 kilometers. It’s a one-way trip that can take around 40 to 60 minutes. One way to explore this area is through a motorized vehicle.

Although Mtirala is more popular than Machakhela, the latter sees fewer tourists. I prefer Machakhela due to its combination of history and nature.

Located south of Batumi and bordering Turkey, Machakhela features a Colchic forest and is full of tall waterfalls and ambling streams. It’s also known for its unique landscape.

One of the village’s must-visit sites is a local lore museum inside a mosque. Another must-visit area is the Machakhela gunsmith’s workshop, where skilled artisans such as Zaza Nagervadze still make flint guns using the traditional methods.

There are also various interesting structures in the park, such as the stone “Tamara” bridge, which was a part of the Ottoman Empire’s pillbox gun collection. One of the best ways to enjoy a local meal is by eating a home-cooked Adjarian meal.

This region is known for its prime habitat for water birds, and it’s also one of the most popular bird watching areas in Georgia. More than 200 species of water birds are known to build nests in this area.

One of the best ways to explore the area is by getting out on the water. There are boat tours that take you through the Paliastomi and Pichori Rivers. You can also hire a kayaking or a canoe to explore the Churia Nature Paddling Trail. These are all great options if you’re planning on visiting the park during the day.

Other activities such as hiking and horse riding are also available in the park. If you’re not planning on taking on a boat tour, you can still explore the area by bike. This can be done through a long track that’s only accessible by bicycle.

The history of the Kingdom of Colchis can be traced back to this region, which was the first Georgian state to be established in 2000. The Kolkheti Culture Museum in Poti displays various artifacts from this period.

Poti is a great port city that’s worth exploring. There are a variety of activities that you can take in this area, such as walking along the beach and exploring the city’s historic sites.

The beaches of Ureki and Shekvetili are located near the Kobuleti and Kolkheti regions. Both of these areas are known for their popular swimming spots.

The beaches of Ureki and Shekvetili are also located near the Guria region’s coast. Unlike the pebble and stone beaches that are commonly found near Batumi, the sand at these beaches is rich in iron ore minerals.

One of the best beaches in the area is Shekvetili Beach. It’s surrounded by a forest and features a variety of activities and attractions. Other popular activities in this region include the Shekvetili Dendrological Park, which was the inspiration for the movie Taming the Garden. If you’re planning on visiting the area, you can also enjoy a great meal at Nellie’s restaurant.

The beaches of Ureki and Shekvetili are more crowded. Although there are a variety of restaurants and cafes in these areas, the prices at these locations can be high during the summer season.
